ARTIST STATEMENT: I look at photography, not just as creating art, but also documenting life as I see it and live it. Reflections of Life Photography is about reflecting life in my photographs to visually share the experience and emotion of the moment with others. My artwork reflects the unique historic places and landmarks I have visited, and the dedicated people who keep history alive through preservation and interpretation. I also enjoy photographing the natural environment to encourage conservation and protection of wildlife and our scenic treasures. Gardens, farmland, and parkland are also featured in my photographs as a nod to those who cultivate the soil, beautify and maintain the land for future generations. I hope my images inspire others to appreciate and study history, explore new places, seek adventure, and to always live and enjoy life to the fullest.

I became an amateur photographer at the beginning of my military career in the early 1980s. I wanted to document my life experiences and adventures, and to capture memories of special people, pets, events and places on film to share with family and friends. At the time I wasn't considering the artistic or historic value of my photographs. Over the years, my photography has evolved into a more creative fine art form as I transitioned from film to digital images. Besides my professional career as an Army Officer, I had a background in art and interest in design. As an artist I dabbled in various types of media but found photography was my true passion. I combine my eye for design with my photography to create images which appear to be more like paintings or vintage prints.
My specialties include documentary, nature, landscapes, gardens and historic architecture. I also photograph people, particularly historic interpreters in period costumes who bring history to life. I participated in a NatGeo photography workshop, Nikon school seminars, Nikon sponsored Mentor Series Trek, and Worldwide Photo Walks. I completed a Professional Photography Certification program at Boston University's Center for Digital and Imaging Arts in 2013, at the former Georgetown Campus in Washington D.C. to learn more about the business, technological aspects of photography, and to refine and improve my photography skills.
I currently participate in online and gallery art exhibits as a member of a local arts foundation. I use my photography to promote causes near and dear to me. I am a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, and a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America memorial located at Arlington National Cemetery. I am also a member of the American Horticultural Society (AHS), and support George Washington's Mount Vernon, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation all based in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
